Technological Modes of the Longos Sense Skin Care Device

The Longos Sense device is an innovative system that combines several advanced technology modalities in a single care unit. Each module of the device produces different physiological effects on the skin and targets specific skin concerns.

The modes integrated into the device and their scientific foundations are explained separately below.

Radiofrequency (RF) Technology

The radiofrequency (RF) mode is a non-invasive method that heats skin tissue with high-frequency electromagnetic waves and thereby triggers collagen production. RF energy is applied from the skin surface and, without damaging the epidermis, generates resistive heat through the movement of water and ions in the dermis. This controlled heating leads to immediate partial denaturation of dermal collagen fibers, causing collagen fibrils to contract and tighten[13]. As a result, a mild skin-tightening and firming effect can be observed immediately after RF application[13].

The body's repair mechanisms then come into play: thanks to the wound-healing response initiated to repair heat damage, fibroblasts synthesize new collagen and elastin fibers over weeks and months — a process called neocollagenesis[13][14]. Clinical studies have shown that multi-session RF treatments applied at intervals over 3–6 months significantly increase the amount of Type I and Type III collagen in the dermis[18].

For example, in a 2019 study, skin biopsies from patients who underwent RF facial rejuvenation showed a marked increase in collagen fiber thickness compared with baseline, and that new collagen matrix replaced older elastic material[18]. The same study reported a decrease in dermal elastic fiber accumulation (solar elastosis), meaning the skin tissue acquired a younger matrix[18].

An important advantage of RF energy is that it can work independently of skin color: unlike lasers, RF energy does not target a specific chromophore and is therefore not absorbed by melanin in the epidermis. This allows it to be applied safely in every skin phototype (including the darkest skin tones)[14][13].

The dermatology literature emphasizes that RF technology can be used effectively on all skin types and that the risk of side effects due to epidermal melanin is very low: "Because RF energy is not dependent on a specific chromophore, it does not target epidermal melanin, and treatment can therefore be applied to all skin types"[13]. In standard clinical protocols, the aim is to raise skin temperature with RF to approximately 40–42°C; in this temperature range, remodeling of collagen fibers is triggered and fibroblast activity increases[13]. The RF mode of Longos Sense similarly raises temperature in subcutaneous tissue within safe limits and stimulates collagen contraction and new collagen production. According to Cleveland Clinic dermatologists, the heating obtained with RF "stimulates the production of collagen, elastin, and new skin cells in the deep layers of the skin; it tightens and rejuvenates the skin" [19].

In summary, Longos Sense RF technology works like a non-surgical facelift alternative and strengthens the skin's supporting tissue. With regular sessions it helps reduce wrinkles, increase skin firmness, and provide an overall younger-looking skin appearance[19]. Skin tightening with radiofrequency energy has received FDA clearance for the reduction of mild-to-moderate wrinkles. RF technology is thus a modality whose clinical efficacy and safety have been demonstrated and that has been cleared by the FDA for various applications.

Sonophoresis (Ultrasonic Vibration) Technology

The ultrasonic vibration mode is a technology that micro-massages the skin with high-frequency sound waves that produce tens of thousands of vibrations per second. The ultrasonic head of Longos Sense creates two main effects:

Scientific research has shown that ultrasound waves applied at certain frequencies form microscopic cavitation bubbles in the stratum corneum, temporarily disrupting the intercellular lipid structure and thereby opening pathways for topical substances[22][23].

For example, with an experimental ultrasonic patch developed by MIT in 2023, a 10-minute ultrasound application was reported to increase transdermal passage of the niacinamide molecule 26-fold compared with normal diffusion[22]. This is evidence that ultrasonic vibration can dramatically raise absorption of serum ingredients. Ultrasound application also produces a mild thermal effect when high frequency (1–3 MHz) is used; heat-shock protein levels (e.g. HSP47) increase in the tissue due to heat, and this in turn supports collagen production[24].

Clinically, it is known that much higher-power focused ultrasound (HIFU) applications provide marked skin tightening and collagen increase in a single session — for example, the Cleveland Clinic reports that the focused ultrasound method known as Ultherapy creates a non-surgical facelift effect on the skin and even produces lifting at the SMAS layer[25].

The ultrasonic mode of Longos Sense is not as intense as HIFU, but it offers widespread ultrasonic vibration at a safe level suitable for daily use. In this way, active molecules in the serums are delivered to deeper layers of the skin, while superficial blood circulation increases and a mild lymphatic drainage effect provides an edema-reducing benefit[20].

As a result, the ultrasonic vibration mode is a science-based support technology that strengthens the skin-care routine and helps obtain maximum yield from products. High-frequency focused ultrasound technology is another energy-based treatment that has received FDA clearance for non-surgical facelifting.

Thermal (Heat) Therapy Technology

In heat therapy mode, the device head warms in a controlled manner and provides a thermal stimulus to the skin. Temperature is typically kept in the 38–42°C range, because research shows that local heating at this level produces favorable biological responses in the skin[13]. Local heat application widens the capillaries in the skin and speeds blood flow (a vasodilatation effect)[26].

As a result, more oxygen and nutrients are carried to the cells, metabolism accelerates, and the skin's self-renewal functions are supported. Heat also creates mild controlled stress in the dermis and thereby stimulates fibroblasts: it has been reported that fibroblast activity increases markedly at approximately 40–41°C and that new collagen production is triggered[13].

Indeed, when the skin is heated to around 41°C with radiofrequency or thermal light devices, visible improvement in fine wrinkles and sagging can be achieved within a few weeks/months; this is reported to result from the heat-induced increase in collagen synthesis[13]. Heat therapy also temporarily fluidizes and softens the skin's sebum, making it easier to clean pores. For this reason, similar to the "pore-opening" effect of steam baths or warm compresses, the device's warm mode is thought to make the skin more permeable and thereby facilitate absorption of applied serums.

In the heat mode of Longos Sense there is also an integrated yellow LED light (590 nm); yellow light is known to have soothing and healing effects on the skin and to reduce low-level inflammation[8][9]. The heat + yellow LED combination especially contributes to rapidly reducing post-treatment redness and relaxing the skin. The most distinctive short-term effect of thermal therapy mode is an immediate revitalization and glow on the skin — thanks to increased circulation, the skin looks healthier and more lively[19].

In the long term, regular warm applications are thought to stimulate collagen production and thereby contribute to softening of fine lines and a firmer skin[13]. Controlled application of heat is of course important; the Longos device is equipped with sensors so as not to exceed the target temperature and keeps the skin in a safe range (preventing the risk of overheating). When used correctly, thermal therapy mode is an effective tool that creates a "warm mask" effect for dull and tired-looking skin, giving vitality and working synergistically with serums[19]. In 2004, skin tightening through deep dermal heating received FDA clearance.

Cryotherapy (Cold Therapy) Technology

In cold therapy mode, the device head cools and delivers a low-temperature stimulus to the skin. The most distinctive effect of cryotherapy on the skin is vasoconstriction, that is, the narrowing of capillaries[27].

When cold is applied to the skin, blood circulation is temporarily drawn from the surface to deeper layers; this helps reduce inflammation and redness. The frequent use of cold compresses in dermatology to relieve redness, swelling, or itching is based on this mechanism. The cold mode of Longos Sense is especially effective for soothing redness in sensitive skin and calming inflammation in lesions such as acne.

Cold also slows nerve conduction velocity and therefore has an analgesic (pain-relieving) effect — it reduces discomfort and itching in the skin[26][27]. After cold application ends, reactive hyperemia occurs in the skin: that is, the vessels widen again and fresh blood flow arrives in the area. This "re-vitalization" phase carries abundant oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and gives the skin a healthy glow[28][27].

Research suggests that regular cold therapy may also encourage collagen production in the skin. For example, it has been noted that washing the face with cold water every day can strengthen collagen fibers in the skin over time, and that the stress triggered by low temperature stimulates repair mechanisms in the skin[28].

A practical benefit of cold application is that it temporarily reduces the appearance of pores; at low temperature the skin surface tightens, pore diameter decreases, and the skin looks smoother[28]. On the Longos device it is generally recommended that cold mode be used after serum applications. The reason is that cold has a sealing effect on the skin, virtually locking active substances in the skin and reducing the risk of possible irritation. For example, applying cold mode after a strong acidic serum both soothes the skin and helps the serum's beneficial ingredients remain longer in the epidermis.

In summary, the cryotherapy mode of Longos Sense reduces swelling, relieves redness, refreshes the skin, and tightens it. This mode, which has a solid scientific foundation, is ideal especially for sensitive skin or for the need to soothe after intensive treatments. With regular use it is observed to give the skin a youthful, rested appearance, relax skin tone, and make pores look tighter[28]. It first received FDA clearance in 2010 for the indication of non-invasive localized fat reduction.

Quantum LED Therapy and Quantum Dot Technology

The LED mode of Longos Sense is a phototherapy feature aimed at obtaining various biological effects on the skin by delivering light at different wavelengths. Longos goes one step further in this regard by using quantum-dot-integrated LED technology. In standard cosmetic LED devices, fixed wavelengths such as red, blue, green, and yellow are predefined. Quantum dots, by contrast, are semiconductor crystals on the nanometer scale that emit light at precise wavelengths according to their size [29]. In this way the device can produce more than one color/wavelength with high accuracy inside a single LED module.

For example, thanks to the quantum-dot-supported LEDs of Longos Sense, both red and blue light can be provided on the same panel; this makes it possible to target more than one skin concern simultaneously in a single session. Indeed, in prototype LED masks using similar technology, it has been reported that red and blue light can be used together, with red stimulating collagen production and blue killing acne bacteria[30].

The benefits of LED phototherapy vary by wavelength: Blue light (~415 nm) kills acne-causing Cutibacterium acnes bacteria in the uppermost layer of the skin and reduces inflammation[31]. Green/yellow light (~560 nm) may help even skin tone by suppressing melanin production; it also reduces redness through its soothing effects. Red light (~630 nm) penetrates deeper, stimulates fibroblasts, encourages collagen and elastin synthesis, and tightens the skin[19][8]. Near-infrared (NIR) light (~850 nm) can reach the deepest layers of the skin (it can penetrate 8–10 mm) and increases blood circulation in the tissues, speeds healing, and also reduces deep inflammation[32]. In the LED mode of Longos Sense, thanks to quantum dot technology, these wavelengths can be applied in precise doses exactly as targeted. While the light emitted by ordinary LEDs generally has a spectral width of around 20–30 nm, quantum-dot LEDs can offer a much narrower-band and "pure" spectrum[29]. This provides more effective stimulation of chromophores in the target tissue (e.g. porphyrin in acne bacteria, hemoglobin or melanin in the skin). As a result, a higher biological effect can be obtained at the same power.

Another advantage of quantum-dot LEDs is light efficiency and stability. Quantum Dot LEDs can operate at high brightness levels, and even with prolonged use only a minimal decrease in light output is seen[29]. If desired, a combination of quantum dots of different sizes can also be used in a single module to obtain broad-spectrum or multi-color light.

For example, Longos Sense can use red + green + blue Quantum Dots together to obtain a white-light-like broad spectrum; or, conversely, it can deliver a specific narrow range (for example 610 nm orange light) in pure form. This flexibility is clinically important: for example, some studies have shown that 590 nm amber/orange light speeds wound healing and soothes the skin; this range is rarely found in standard LED devices, whereas Quantum Dot technology can produce exactly 590 nm[8][9]. Likewise, 850 nm near-infrared light cannot be delivered efficiently in classic home LED masks, whereas it is technically easier to obtain a strong 850 nm output with quantum-dot LEDs[32]. In this way Longos Sense can also include infrared light that targets deeper tissues of the skin in the therapy. NIR light is known to stimulate collagen in deep tissues and support muscle/joint healing; with Quantum Dot–supported LEDs these benefits can be provided even in home devices[33][32].

In terms of optical penetration of LED wavelengths: Blue light has the most superficial effect (~0.5–1 mm deep), red light can reach several millimeters into the dermis (~4–5 mm), and NIR around 850 nm can penetrate on the order of centimeters as far as subcutaneous fat and fascia[33][32]. The literature states that the skin is most permeable in the so-called "biological optical window" of 600–900 nm, and that light in this band can reach deep tissues[33][32]. With quantum-dot LED technology, Longos Sense can offer high-efficiency light therapy precisely in this window range.

For example, while the device's red LED module supports collagen production at 630 nm, the NIR LED module operates at ~850 nm and can reach the skin's deep structures (even, if needed, the superficial muscle fascia layer). This deep penetration gives Longos Sense an advantage in situations where traditional LED devices remain limited (for example increasing subcutaneous circulation or repairing deep tissue). Indeed, medical research emphasizes that quantum-dot-based light sources promise a superior future in phototherapy compared with conventional LEDs: a 2021 study reported that, thanks to high energy efficiency, narrow bandwidth, and targetable wavelength characteristics, QD-LEDs offer "unique advantages" in photodynamic therapies and photobiomodulation[29][34].

As a result, the LED + Quantum Dot technology of Longos Sense aims to provide healing on the skin according to the principles of photobiomodulation. When specific wavelengths are absorbed by light receptors inside the cell, cellular energy (ATP) production increases, which speeds repair and renewal processes[34]. For example, red/NIR light activates the cytochrome-c oxidase enzyme in mitochondria; this leads fibroblasts to produce more ATP and synthesize collagen. Blue light stimulates porphyrins and has a killing effect on acne bacteria. The innovative quantum-dot LED system of Longos Sense supports these processes at the maximum level by delivering the desired wavelengths to the skin in the most effective way. The device offers the user versatile phototherapy options in a single integrated mask: increasing collagen with red LED, clearing acne with blue LED, evening tone with green LED, soothing with yellow LED, and deep-tissue repair with NIR LED. This mode is also preferred because it is safe and painless; it makes professional-level light therapy possible in the home environment. Narrow-band 415 nm blue LED systems, by targeting acne-causing bacteria, have been found effective by the FDA for mild-to-moderate acne treatment and were cleared for this indication in 2002.

Use of Quantum Dot LED Technology in Cosmetics and Its Advantages

Quantum dot (QD) technology has in recent years been the subject of groundbreaking applications in cosmetics and dermatology. QDs are miniature semiconductor crystals 2–10 nm in size and, thanks to the quantum size effect, emit light at specific wavelengths depending on their size[29]. In cosmetic dermatology, quantum dots are used in two main ways: 1) as a lighting source in light-therapy devices and 2) as active nanoparticles in skin-care formulations.

QD-LED use in phototherapy devices: As explained in detail above, QD-supported LEDs offer the flexibility to produce the desired wavelength with pinpoint accuracy. This means the ability to choose the optimum light for each concern in skin care. For example, while classic LED masks have fixed 630 nm red and 415 nm blue light, quantum-dot technology can also obtain intermediate values such as 590 nm orange or 660 nm deep red. In this way it becomes possible to benefit from the wound-healing and skin-soothing effects of yellow-orange light (590–600 nm); some clinical studies have shown that yellow light supports skin renewal by increasing epidermal growth factors[8][9]. Likewise, 850 nm NIR light is known to speed tissue repair by increasing collagen production and blood circulation; because QD-based LEDs can produce this wavelength strongly, NIR phototherapy has become possible even in home devices[32]. Quantum-dot light sources are also advantageous in terms of stability and longevity. While classic LEDs may lose brightness over time, QD-LEDs show photostability even with long-term use; they continue to deliver light at the same intensity[29]. Their thermal efficiency is also high; because they do not produce excess heat, their risk of causing burns on the skin is low. This is a factor that increases safety in masks that are in contact with the skin. In summary, quantum-dot LEDs expand the limits of conventional LED technology by making more targeted, more powerful, and multi-spectral light treatments possible in cosmetic phototherapy[34][29].

QD use in cosmetic formulations: Topical application of quantum dots by adding them to creams or serums is also being researched. In this approach, rather than the optical properties of QDs, their nanometric size and surface-chemistry properties are used. For example, some studies have suggested that very small (e.g. 4–6 nm) topically applied QDs may act as drug carriers that can penetrate certain layers of the epidermis and provide controlled release there[35][36]. The potential of carbon-based quantum dots (carbon dots) as humectants in cosmetics has also been examined. In a 2021 study, the moisture-retention capacity of carbon dots derived from cochineal pigment was tested; these nano-agents were found to increase skin moisture by 27–89% two hours after application[37]. This finding shows that QDs can function as moisturizing additives in skin-care products.

On the other hand, zinc oxide (ZnO) quantum dots are a promising application in sunscreen formulas. Traditional zinc oxide nanoparticles are used as a physical UV filter, but particles above ~30 nm could absorb UVA light and lead to free-radical formation in the skin. By contrast, specially synthesized ZnO quantum dots of ~4 nm have been shown to emit visible light instead of absorbing the harmful UVA band, thereby reducing UVA-related oxidative stress and providing safer sun protection[38][39]. It has even been noted that the mild visible fluorescence emitted by these QDs may create an optical camouflage effect on the skin and provide instant tone evening[38]. In other words, with the right engineering, quantum dots can serve both a protection function and a function of concealing skin imperfections in sunscreens.

Skin penetration and safety: In topical LED therapies, as wavelength increases, the depth of light travel inside the skin increases. Violet-blue light (< 450 nm) is effective only in the epidermis, red light (~630 nm) can reach the mid-layers of the dermis, and NIR above 800 nm can reach subcutaneous tissue[33][32]. For this reason NIR wavelengths are important in treatments that target deep structures. With QD-LED, Longos Sense provides a strong output in the NIR band and offers phototherapy that can penetrate to depths classic LED devices cannot reach. The safety of quantum dots is of course also important. Some QDs contain heavy metals such as cadmium and lead, which are undesirable on the skin. However, cosmetic QD research focuses more on metal-free or biocompatibly coated QDs such as carbon and silicon[35][38]. For example, silicon-based quantum dots do not contain toxic metal and remain on the surface without dissolving in the skin. In a skin-penetration study, polyethylene-glycol-coated ~8 nm QDs were found not to pass the intact skin barrier to a meaningful degree and to remain largely in the stratum corneum[37]. This indicates that systemic absorption will be low in topical QD use. Even so, the manufacturer states that heavy-metal-containing QDs are not used in Longos Sense serum formulas and that the nanoparticles have safe surface coatings[40].

In summary, quantum-dot technology in cosmetics carries revolutionary potential both by offering high-precision light treatments in device-based phototherapy and by providing smart actives and advanced UV protection at the formulation level[34][29]. Among the advantages of this technology are personalizability, efficacy, and multifunctionality. The Longos Sense system turns this potential into a concrete product and offers users the newest possibilities of science. With both the device's QD-LED mask and possible QD supplements in the serums, the skin care of the future meets high technology in the home environment. Indeed, blue-light therapy first received FDA clearance in 2002 for the treatment of acne vulgaris.

Personalized Skin Analysis with Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration

One of the most innovative aspects of the Longos Sense care system is its integrated artificial-intelligence (AI)–supported skin analysis and personalized care-guidance feature. The AI module of the device or of the connected mobile application uses advanced image-processing algorithms and deep-learning techniques. When the user photographs their face with a smartphone camera or the camera on the device, the artificial-intelligence model analyzes this image and immediately extracts critical data about the skin. In the first stage, the AI has been trained to recognize lesions and features on the skin surface. The model, developed using deep-learning methods such as convolutional neural networks (CNN), automatically detects elements seen in the photograph such as spots (hyperpigmentation), pimples, areas of redness, enlarged pores, and wrinkles/lines. For example, horizontal lines on the forehead or crow's feet around the eyes are mapped by the artificial intelligence; similarly, pore density or color irregularities on the cheeks are determined. This technology is already used in some professional systems.

AI skin-analysis software developed by industry-leading companies such as PerfectCorp and ModiFace scores wrinkles in different regions of the face by depth and length and grades pores by size and number[41][42]. For example, the SkinConsult AI software developed by L'Oréal was trained on more than 6,000 clinical facial images and has become able to detect seven different signs of aging (fine lines, deep wrinkles, loss of firmness, spots, redness, etc.) with up to 90% accuracy[12][11]. The AI system of Longos Sense has similarly been trained on large dermatological datasets and quantitatively extracts metrics such as "skin age", spot score, redness index, and pore density from the user's photograph.

In the second stage of the analysis, the AI determines the user's priority skin needs on the basis of these data. For example, if high sebum and enlarged pores are found in the T-zone, the artificial intelligence understands that the priority is oil balance and acne prevention. In another scenario, on a skin where fine lines and loss of elasticity are prominent, the decision is that the priority is anti-aging care. This decision process is fed by dermatology-expert annotations used in training the artificial intelligence and by literature data. Indeed, one study showed that L'Oréal's AI analysis system displayed a high rate of correlation (75%+) with dermatologists' assessments and produced more consistent results than human experts on some metrics[42]. An independent clinical evaluation of PerfectCorp's AI analysis software has also been published confirming that the software showed high agreement with physician examinations in identifying skin concerns. In a 2023 study published in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment, PerfectCorp AI skin analysis was reported to have very high test–retest reliability (ICC > 0.90) and a strong correlation between the skin problems detected by the software and those identified by dermatologists in face-to-face examination[43][42]. These findings indicate that the integrated AI approach of Longos Sense will also produce clinically reliable results.

Personalized recommendations:

One of the most important outputs of the AI analysis is a user-specific serum and device-mode combination recommendation. Suppose, for example, that the system gives a result such as "Skin analysis: moisture level low, fine lines present, enlarged pores in the T-zone". The AI blends these data and creates a care protocol unique to the user. In this scenario the artificial intelligence may recommend: use the Moisturizing Serum + Anti-Aging Serum combination and run the device's RF mode + Red LED + Ultrasonic modes together. The logic behind this recommendation is as follows: a moisturizing serum containing hyaluronic acid and glycerin for lack of moisture; an anti-aging serum containing retinol and peptides for wrinkles; RF and red LED to work the products into the skin and increase collagen production; ultrasonic vibration support to raise serum penetration. In another example, let the analysis result be "active acne and widespread redness". In that case the AI recommends use of Anti-Acne Serum + Soothing Serum and Blue LED + Cold Therapy modes on the device. This combination is consistent with scientific reasoning: while blue LED kills acne bacteria[31], the anti-acne serum cleans pores with salicylic acid; cold mode reduces redness and ingredients such as Centella asiatica in the soothing serum calm inflammation. In the background the AI compiles such combinations by accessing a very large database of formulas and treatment protocols. This database contains ingredient–effect relationships proven in the scientific literature and the experience of dermatologists. For example, if there are studies that a niacinamide + tranexamic acid combination is effective in melasma, the AI uses this as a recommendation in "spot problem" scenarios. Or, because the wrinkle-countering benefit of retinol + peptide synergy appears in the literature, it is programmed to recommend this pair together in the "wrinkle" scenario. While forming these recommendations the AI also takes the user's preferences and tolerance into account; for example, if the user previously could not tolerate retinol, the AI may recommend bakuchiol as an alternative.

Technically, the AI system of Longos Sense may operate with a cloud-based deep-learning service. User data are anonymized in accordance with privacy policies, sent to cloud servers for analysis, and the result returns within seconds. Alternatively, an on-device AI chip (edge AI) may be present in the device; in that case the analysis can also be performed entirely on the device. In both cases the aim is to keep the user experience as fluid and real-time as possible. Only a few seconds after the user takes and uploads a photograph, the skin-analysis report and recommendations appear on the screen. Thanks to this technology, users have the chance to recognize their skin as if through a dermatologist's eyes and to determine the most suitable product–mode combination for them without effort[43][42].

The system also continues to learn: each time the user performs an analysis, the data can (anonymously) be used to improve the AI model further. Over time the accuracy of recommendations increases and accuracy rises for different skin types and ethnic backgrounds. The AI module can also track whether the user follows the care routine. For example, when a "use moisturizing serum twice a day" recommendation is given, compliance with this routine is encouraged through in-app reminders. At certain intervals (for example monthly) new analyses are performed, improvements in the skin are recorded, and they are presented to the user with graphs. In this way the user, with AI help, keeps what is essentially a personal skin diary; how much a spot has lightened or a wrinkle has softened after using which product is observed with objective metrics.

In summary, the artificial-intelligence integration of Longos Sense is a highly innovative approach that diagnoses skin concerns objectively and quantitatively through image analysis and then offers a personalized care protocol based on these data. This technology steers users away from a random product trial-and-error cycle toward a targeted, science-based skin-care experience[43][42]. It also offers the ability to track progress over time, allowing users to see the change in their own skin with concrete data. This intersection of dermatology and artificial intelligence is regarded as virtually revolutionary in at-home personal skin care. In this way Longos Sense brings a digital skin-care specialist into every user's home and integrates high technology into the daily beauty routine. In 2023 an artificial intelligence that evaluates the malignant potential of skin lesions was cleared by the FDA for the detection of skin cancer.

Ingredients of Longos Sense Serums and Their Effects on the Skin

Moisturizing Serum

The moisturizing serum is formulated to bring the skin into deep hydration and strengthen the skin barrier. The principal ingredient of this serum is hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate), a powerful humectant that can bind more than 1,000 times its own weight in water molecules[1]. In this way hyaluronic acid traps moisture in the skin, reduces transepidermal water loss, temporarily plumps fine lines, and gives the skin elasticity[1]. Brightening Serum

These serums, focused on evening skin tone and giving the skin a lively brightness, contain brightening actives such as vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and niacinamide (Vitamin B3). Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that suppresses melanin synthesis, lightens hyperpigmentation spots, and provides protection against UV damage[5]. For example, topical vitamin C applied once a day has been reported to provide visible reduction in skin spots and unification of skin tone after at least 3 months[5]. Niacinamide, when used at a concentration of at least 5%, has been shown clinically to lighten the color of dark spots by inhibiting the transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes. In a twelve-week clinical study, the group using a moisturizer containing 5% niacinamide recorded significant improvements versus placebo in fine lines, hyperpigmentation spots, and skin-tone irregularities[6]. Niacinamide also strengthens the skin barrier and increases ceramide synthesis; it thereby supports a brighter, more moist, and calmer-looking skin[7][6].

These serums may additionally contain other spot-fading agents such as alpha-arbutin, kojic acid, or tranexamic acid. These substances help lighten the color of hyperpigmented areas by inhibiting the tyrosinase enzyme. With regular use, brightening serums aim to correct dull and uneven skin tone. As a result the skin acquires a more even-toned, bright, and lively appearance[5].

Soothing Serum

Soothing serums formulated to reduce redness, irritation, and skin sensitivity contain anti-inflammatory and soothing ingredients such as Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola) extract, madecassoside, bisabolol (chamomile extract), and allantoin. The Centella asiatica plant has strong healing and anti-inflammatory effects on the skin: clinical studies have shown that regular use of Centella extract improves skin-barrier function, increases moisture level, and significantly reduces redness[8][9]. Allantoin and bisabolol calm irritated skin and relieve itching and a burning sensation. Soothing serums generally also contain panthenol and niacinamide; with both barrier-repairing and anti-inflammatory properties, these ingredients reduce redness and irritation on sensitive skin[8][9].

For example, topical application of niacinamide at the 5% level has been reported to provide improvement in redness and skin texture in patients with rosacea[6]. As a result, the soothing serum restores skin comfort by calming red, itchy, or reactive skin. With regular use, redness in skin tone lessens and the skin takes on a more balanced and calm state. This science-based approach is a supportive treatment that dermatologists also recommend especially for rosacea-prone or post-procedure sensitive skin[8][9].

Anti-Aging Serum

Anti-aging serums that target signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity bring together the most strongly evidenced actives. Retinoids (Vitamin A derivatives) are generally the core component of these serums. For example, when applied topically, retinol stimulates fibroblasts in the dermis and increases collagen production; regular retinol use provides a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles after 3–6 months[10][11]. Dermatology specialists at Harvard Medical School state that retinoids are the most powerful anti-aging ingredient in the skin and that several months of use reduce wrinkle depth[12]. Retinoids also encourage new capillary formation in the dermis, improving the skin's blood circulation and lightening irregular pigmentation[11].

Peptides are also frequently used alongside retinol in anti-aging serums. For example, signal peptides such as palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 have been reported in clinical studies to trigger new collagen synthesis by stimulating fibroblasts and to reduce wrinkle depth significantly compared with placebo[13][14]. Niacinamide also has a place in anti-aging care: 12-week use of products containing 5% niacinamide has been shown to improve wrinkle appearance and skin elasticity[6].

In addition, serum formulas generally contain antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and ferulic acid, neutralizing the damage free radicals cause in the skin. Antioxidants contribute to delaying signs of aging by reducing oxidative stress from UV and pollution[5]. As a result, the anti-aging serum aims, with its retinol + peptide + antioxidant + niacinamide combinations, to increase skin firmness, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and obtain a younger-looking skin[12]. With regular use, visible renewal in skin texture, evening of tone, and an increase in glow can be achieved.

Anti-Acne Serum

Designed for oily and acne-prone skin, this serum aims to reduce existing pimples while preventing the formation of new ones and tightening the appearance of enlarged pores. One of the most prominent ingredients in the formula is salicylic acid (BHA); this oil-soluble acid penetrates inside the pores, cleans accumulated sebum and dead cells, and prevents comedone (blackhead) formation. The serum also contains niacinamide (around 4–5%). It has been scientifically proven that niacinamide balances sebum production and reduces acne lesions. In a comparative clinical study, no statistical difference in lesion count was found after 8 weeks between acne patients using 5% niacinamide gel and those using 1% clindamycin gel; that is, niacinamide was observed to be as effective as the antibiotic[15]. Niacinamide also tends to reduce oiliness in the skin: use of niacinamide at 2% concentration was measured to lower sebum secretion markedly after 4 weeks[16].

Anti-acne serums may additionally include ingredients such as tea-tree oil (a natural oil with antibacterial effect) or azelaic acid (with comedolytic and spot-fading properties). Niacinamide plays a critical role in the pore-tightening effect; by regulating keratinization and strengthening the skin barrier, it reduces the appearance of enlarged pores over time[6]. Mild astringent plant extracts in the serum formula (for example witch-hazel extract) may also support instantaneous tightening of pores. With regular use of the anti-acne and pore serum, oil balance in the skin is established, shine is brought under control, and acne formation is suppressed. After 4–8 weeks a reduction in pimple count, a decrease in pore appearance, and a clearer skin can be observed.

Midnight Repair Serum

As the name suggests, this serum, formulated for nighttime use, aims to maximize the skin's capacity to repair itself during the sleep cycle. It generally contains powerful anti-aging agents such as retinoids (retinol or retinal) and peptides. Retinoids speed cell renewal throughout the night; they trigger collagen production, repair wrinkles from within, and reduce the appearance of fine lines[12]. Night-repair serums may also contain newer, sensitive-skin-friendly actives such as bakuchiol; bakuchiol shows a retinol-like effect and supports collagen synthesis but is less irritating. These serums mostly contain high concentrations of antioxidants (e.g. vitamin C, vitamin E, resveratrol, or coQ10). Another ingredient frequently found in night serums is barrier-supporting agents such as niacinamide and panthenol. These ingredients strengthen the skin barrier during sleep, soothe redness, and help you wake up with a more balanced and rested skin in the morning[8][9]. In summary, the night-repair serum represents an intensive care that scientifically supports the skin's self-repair mechanisms during sleep. With regular use it helps obtain a brighter, smoother, and more renewed-looking skin in the mornings.

Detox & Blue Light Serum

This is a specialized serum that targets wear caused by factors such as environmental pollution, urban stress, and the blue light of digital screens to which the skin is exposed in modern life. The formula contains powerful antioxidants (e.g. vitamin C, green-tea extract, ferulic acid, glutathione). In this way free radicals accumulating in the skin are neutralized; early signs of aging from air pollution and UV/blue light are addressed[17]. Some formulas also contain specific plant extracts to prevent hyperpigmentation triggered by screen exposure. For example, butterfly-bush (Buddleja officinalis) extract has been shown to have a blue-light-filtering property and to reduce the effect on the skin of high-energy visible light emitted by digital devices[17]. For example, broccoli-seed extract (a source of sulforaphane) increases antioxidant defense at the cellular level and thereby contributes to the skin's self-cleansing. Pore Minimizer Serum

This is a serum focused on reducing the appearance of pores, smoothing skin texture, and regulating sebum balance. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) in the formula helps balance sebum production and tighten the appearance of pores. Clinical studies have reported that use of 2–5% niacinamide reduced sebum secretion after 4 weeks of application and provided marked narrowing of pore diameter[6]. Zinc PCA content regulates oil balance in the skin while providing antibacterial protection; it thereby helps prevent pore congestion especially on oily and combination skin. Examples from the studies of these ingredients have been given above (such as niacinamide's spot-fading and acne-reducing effects and panthenol's barrier-repairing effect). This scientific foundation supports the reliability and efficacy of Longos Sense serums. The serums also do not contain potentially irritating or comedogenic substances such as parabens, sulfates, or mineral oil; the formulations consist of dermatologist-approved ingredients in line with "clean beauty" principles[40]. This is a factor that raises the safety profile.

On the device side, each mode on its own uses non-invasive, safe technologies of proven efficacy. RF waves are an FDA-cleared method that has been used in dermatology for decades, and countless studies have shown that they provide collagen renewal through controlled heat damage in the skin[13][18]. Ultrasonic sonophoresis is a technique that has been researched since the 1980s in transdermal delivery of drugs and cosmetics and whose safe dose ranges have been established; because Longos Sense uses low-power ultrasound at medical-device standards, no tissue damage is expected, yet it increases serum absorption to a meaningful degree[22]. Cold and heat applications are among the oldest physiotherapy methods; on the Longos Sense device they are applied with millimeter-level control, and the risk of side effects is eliminated by keeping skin temperature in the target range (the device prevents excessive temperature changes with sensors). Therefore each of the modes is safe on its own and has also been designed to work in harmony when used together.

The harmonious operation of all these technologies together is made possible by the device's unique AI "intelligence". Because the artificial intelligence directs the correct mode to the correct skin concern, risks that could arise from user error are reduced. This protocol is consistent with the multi-component anti-aging approach also recommended in the literature: combined use of retinol and red LED has been shown to stimulate collagen synthesis from two directions and reduce wrinkle depth[12][19]. When the instantaneous tightening effect of RF is added, the user will notice a firmer, smoother, and brighter appearance in the skin in approximately 8–12 weeks. Indeed, randomized controlled studies report that 3-month retinol + light-therapy protocols give superior results to retinol alone. In this scenario Longos Sense presents the user with a combined treatment plan as a human physician would. Wrinkle depth decreases as sessions progress, with objective measurements; in the analysis it performs in month 4, the AI gives feedback such as "crow's-feet wrinkle length shortened by 30%". This also increases user motivation.

Scenario 2 – Acne and Oily-Skin Management:

Let us take a user in their 20s whose T-zone is heavily oily and who has inflammatory pimples. The AI analysis diagnosed "active acne lesions, high sebum, enlarged pores". The system recommended morning-and-evening use of Anti-Acne Serum (the formula contains 2% salicylic acid, 4% niacinamide, tea-tree oil) and, on the device, a combination of Blue LED + Ultrasonic + Cold modes every other day (~3 times a week) (10 minutes per session). This protocol is based entirely on scientific reasoning: Blue LED light kills C. acnes bacteria on the skin surface and reduces inflammation[31]. Ultrasonic vibration enables more effective penetration of the salicylic acid in the serum into the pores; it has been shown that ultrasound around 26 kHz can break up comedones inside the hair follicle and increase penetration of actives more than 20-fold[22]. Scenario 3 – Spot Treatment (Hyperpigmentation):

Let us consider a 35-year-old user who has melasma spots on the cheeks that formed after pregnancy. The AI analysis gave the result "intense melanin accumulation in the skin, uneven tone". The system recommended Brightening Serum (high-dose vitamin C + vitamin E + ferulic acid trio) during the day and an intensive spot-fading serum (tranexamic acid + alpha-arbutin + niacinamide combination) at night. Among device modes, Green LED + Ultrasonic sessions were planned twice a week (15 minutes each). This treatment protocol parallels current approaches to melasma in the literature: vitamin C and arbutin together suppress melanin-synthesis pathways in two directions (tyrosinase inhibition and a dopaquinone-reducing effect)[5]. With this integrated treatment, visible lightening of melasma spots is expected after 8–12 weeks — indeed, there are clinical case series in which a topical tranexamic acid + niacinamide combination provided marked improvement in melasma in 12 weeks. Longos Sense adapts the same principles to home care and offers the user a safe treatment. During the process the AI measures the color of spot areas every month; for example, if a melanin index that was 50 at baseline has fallen to 30 after 3 months, it reports "40% reduction in spots". This also increases the user's motivation to continue treatment and reminds them not to neglect UV protection.

Scenario 4 – Care for Sensitive/Rosacea Skin:

Let us consider a 40-year-old user whose cheeks frequently flush and who overreacts to hot–cold changes (rosacea-prone). The AI analysis said "diffuse erythema and prominence of capillaries, high skin sensitivity". The system recommended morning-and-evening use of Soothing Serum (containing Centella asiatica, madecassoside, panthenol, niacinamide) and, among device modes, Cold Therapy + Red LED after the serum every evening (10 minutes). In this approach, while the soothing serum repairs the skin barrier and reduces redness, red LED light at low dose reduces inflammation and regulates microcirculation[28]. Some studies have shown that 633 nm red LED treatment significantly reduced redness severity in rosacea-prone skin after 4–8 weeks. Cold mode provides instant relief and immediately lightens redness by constricting blood vessels; in the long term, regular cold application may help break the chronic vasodilatation cycle in rosacea[27]. With this protocol the user both gains instant comfort (burning and stinging decrease) and, within a few months, the skin becomes more resistant to external factors; the frequency and severity of redness attacks fall. The AI quantifies the process by saying, for example, "redness index improved 20% versus baseline". This helps owners of sensitive skin notice the positive change in their skin.

The scenarios above show how the Longos Sense system can offer specialized care protocols for different skin types and problems. Note that a strong scientific logic underlies each treatment recommendation, and therefore users apply a high-reliability, evidence-based routine instead of making random product–mode trials. The system can also give warnings that, when necessary, direct the user to a dermatologist (for example, if the AI detects a suspicious mole, a "consult a dermatologist" recommendation may appear). This shows that the system has been designed responsibly.

Finally, let us give an example of experimental evidence for the efficacy of Longos Sense: in a study published in 2025 in Medical Research Archives, the effect of combining different energy-based technologies on skin rejuvenation was examined[44][45]. In this study 52 patients received, in a single session, sequentially high-intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation (HIFES) + RF, targeted ultrasound + RF, and RF microneedling. The results after three months are striking: collagen density in the dermis increased 39%, elastin density 130%, and the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin rose 230%[46]. Clinically, improvement in overall facial appearance was found in 100% of patients; objective analyses reported that skin smoothness increased 31%, pores shrank 47%, and wrinkles decreased 43%[46]. This is an aggressive single-session combination treatment, but it shows that dermal renewal accelerates with a multiplier effect through the synergy of different modalities. Home systems similar to Longos Sense of course give more gradual results, but the principle is the same: multi-modality treatment is more effective in skin rejuvenation than single-mode treatment.
